They did amazing appearing the food with the drinks. The first, second, and the riesling wine, also one of the red wines was excellent. There were three dishes that stood out to me the most, the second course, was incredible with five different flavors, and as you chewed, the flavors started to change, incredible! I had three favorite alcohols on the reserve tasting. Then we were brought inside and officially started off at the bar, ended up in the kitchen, and then finally the dining room. When he first walked in, it was like a speakeasy, kind of hidden. One of my favorite part about this experience was that we went to four different rooms in total. They were knowledgeable about everything they brought out, which I really I appreciated. The environment was amazing, all of the staff members were nice, which made the experience even better. I definitely think it was worth the $300. Some of these flavors were incredible, and really made you open up your pallet and think about all of the different types of flavors it is opening. We spent over $500 a person, and I wouldn’t of traded the experience. But, this was something I wanted to do, and I'm glad we went. I had read reviews saying that the food isn't what it used to be, and sadly, I think they are probably right. Was this the meal of my dreams? No, it wasn't. It turns out that apple leather made into twine is both somewhat functional and definitely delicious. Caviar with lychee? Sign me up! The truffle explosion was truly an explosion of truffle, even if was rather salty. The handheld caviar dish we had was lovely with a surprising combination of flavors. Dessert flavors (strawberry, chocolate, banana) were also strangely muted. Maybe it needed more of a sear? We had some tapioca pearls (similar to what you find in bubble tea) that were just tough and crumbly. I've enjoyed some great Wagyu beef while ignoring thoughts about my cholesterol, but I found this nauseating. The beef at the end was also incredibly fatty. By the time we were instructed to dip the shrimp in a seasoned coating, the shrimp was rubbery and overcooked. It probably took an additional 5 minutes. One shrimp dish (shrimp buried in seaweed and salt) was delivered and left on the table while they brought the rest of the course. Some of the courses had questionable preparations. I'd rather give up sugar than salt, but when I can't taste the food, that's an issue for me. I'll eat pickles, cornichons, olives, salami any day. Once we were a few courses in, however, I noted that the food was being more and more salty, to the point that we did not finish all the courses. Nothing incredible, but well-executed, if a bit boring especially when taken out of context of the stories being discussed. However, the food was a bit of a letdown. We ended it with the famous dessert plated on our table. Service was excellent it was very attentive and friendly. There were stories and ideas for each course and we were continuously surprised. It was an interactive meal we were even able to have a course in the kitchen that was partially prepared in front of us. Small bites were already there for us to enjoy as guests came and sat down. We walked into a beautiful communal table set up like a garden. This was the one restaurant that had always eluded me, and I was ecstatic to get reservations in the Gallery. Unfortunately, with my work schedule and Alinea's reservation system, it took me well over a decade to make it. I've wanted to have dinner here for over 10 years.
